The Ford Model T is probably one of the most famous early cars in the world. As the Americans joined World War 1, Ford produced variants of this early car for military use, including an ambulance. By the end of the war over 4000 of these ambulances were built and shipped to the front in Europe.
ICM has now produced a model of this World War 1 ambulance in 1/35 scale that looks to be a nice addition to any World War vehicle fan.
This new kit from
ICM comes in a sturdy card board box, and upon opening, you get an idea of the size of the vehicle, the kit contains only two sprues of grey plastic, with a small sprue of clear plastic for the wind screen and lights.
The plastic looks to be very well molded, with little to no flash on the parts, including some finely molded parts. Overall surface detail looks good, and there looks to be a hint of wood grain on the panels. The kit does include an interior for the cab and the rear compartment. This also includes stretchers to add some extra detail, required for an ambulance.
Assembly of the kit starts with the engine and frame. The engine looks basic, but if the builder wants, it could be decked out with plumbing if it was to be shown off. The front hood would need to be cut to be shown in the open position. The spokes on the wheels does look to well done, and should add to the look of the completed model.
Construction then moves onto the rear section and cab. Some planning for painting will need to be done as most of the vehicle is open. It does looks like the only option for the rear is a molded rolled up tarp door, so if you wanted to close off the rear, you would need to provide something to represent the tarp door.
While there are not alot of parts, only two sprues, assembly should be quick for this small vehicle. There are some paint callouts, referencing basic colors, no paint manufacturers.
Paint and markings are included for three different vehicles, two American and one French.
Overall this looks to be a decent kit of this World War 1 ambulance from
ICM. It is a small vehicle and with a small number of parts could be a quick build. The moldings look to be well done, but unfortunately there was no photo-etched parts included. This would definitely be an interesting subject to show on the shelf, and I would recommend this kit.
Review Rating: ★★★★☆ This kit is highly recommended.
There is Russian manufacturer which recently produced a very good photo-etch set for this kit. Here's link http://microdisign.ru (only in Russian)
